Traditional clinic settings can be distracting, sterile, and require you to spend hours loading up the car, driving across town, and sitting in waiting rooms. By bringing therapy directly to your living room, your child learns in the exact environment, at the specific desk, and in the chair where they do their actual schoolwork every day.
This allows us to optimize their real-world posture, eliminate the stress of travel for busy families, and ensure the strategies we build together seamlessly integrate into your daily home routine.

We specialize in working with children ages 4 to 9 (preschool through early elementary).
Ages 4–5: We focus on pre-writing foundations—hand strength, bilateral coordination, scissor skills, and developing an efficient pencil grasp before bad habits set in.
Ages 6–9: We target letter formation, sizing, spacing, hand endurance, and visual-motor integration to eliminate handwriting fatigue, frustration, and task avoidance.

No. While your child's evaluation includes a sensory profile — helping us understand how they engage, attend, and participate — this program isn't sensory integration therapy, and it's not designed to address broader sensory processing concerns.
This is intentional. Many general pediatric OT practices try to be everything at once: sensory integration, self-care, feeding, handwriting, and more. We've chosen the opposite approach — going deep in one area rather than wide across many. Handwriting, and the motor, visual, and cognitive factors that support it, is genuinely where we specialize, not one service among several. If your child's primary needs are sensory-based, we're happy to help point you toward a practice built specifically around that.
-
Most traditional outpatient and school-based OT practices use a generalist approach. Handwriting is often treated as one small goal among many, squeezed into a busy schedule with generic tracing sheets and little time for parent communication.
Foundations First Co. is built entirely differently:
Deep Specialization: Fine motor and handwriting mechanics are the core focus of my clinical career, not an afterthought. We treat the root physical, visual, and postural causes rather than just drilling worksheets.
Real-World Context: Sessions happen at your kitchen table or homeschool desk, meaning we solve ergonomic and sensory barriers in real time where your child actually works.
True Carryover: Progress isn't limited to our 45 minutes together. With a custom home programming binder and direct weekly parent wrap-ups, you get the exact tools and confidence to reinforce new motor habits every day at home.

No — our scope is occupational therapy, focused on the motor, visual, and cognitive factors that impact writing. We don't provide reading or phonics instruction; that stays with reading specialists and SLPs. If your child would benefit from that kind of support alongside our program, we're happy to help you find the right referral.

We don't bill insurance directly, and we're a private-pay practice. We are an approved provider for ESA (Empowerment Scholarship Account) direct pay, which is how most of our families cover the program.
-
We're an approved provider for ESA direct pay. A backup card is kept on file for all ESA families, used only if funds aren't processed in time for a payment.

Consistency is critical to rewiring motor pathways and getting the full benefit of the semester package, so weekly attendance is strongly prioritized.
To give your family flexibility while protecting the momentum of care, we reserve a dedicated make-up window each semester specifically for unavoidable family cancellations or illness. If a session ever needs to be rescheduled by the therapist, a full make-up visit is always guaranteed.
-
The program is non-refundable, with rare, case-by-case exceptions for extreme circumstances.

ANo. Foundations First Co. is exclusively a daytime practice, and after-school or weekend appointments are not offered at this time.
Sessions take place during daytime school hours, making this model an ideal fit for homeschool, ESA, and flexible-schedule families who want high-quality therapy integrated directly into their child's learning day—without having to squeeze one more commitment into busy late afternoons or family weekends.
