Hello!

So nice to have you here!

Family of four sitting on a large rock at the beach, smiling and touching toes, with ocean in the background.

Hi, I'm Sam — I'd love to be the person you've been looking for.

If you're here, chances are you've been watching your child struggle with handwriting for a while now — maybe wondering if it's something to worry about, maybe already knowing it is but not sure where to turn. I started Foundations First Co. because I wanted to be that place: somewhere a parent could bring their real questions and get real, individualized support, not a rushed fifteen minutes squeezed into an overloaded schedule.

My Background I'm a school-based occupational therapist, and handwriting has been the focus of most of my clinical career. Not one skill I touch on alongside a dozen others — genuinely the thing I've spent years going deep on, session after session, kid after kid. Working in schools gave me something I'm deeply grateful for: the chance to see an enormous range of children, needs, and starting points, and to really learn what works and what doesn't when it comes to helping a child's hand, eyes, and brain work together on the page.

I'm HWT trained, and I'm currently continuing my education in dysgraphia-specific intervention, because this field keeps evolving and I want to keep evolving with it. I believe staying a genuine expert in one thing serves families better than being a generalist in many.

Why I Do This Work Over the years, I kept noticing the same families falling through the same cracks. Kids who were told "wait and see" and fell further behind while everyone waited. Kids who didn't quite qualify for school-based OT, even though something was clearly going on. And homeschool families in a strange in-between spot — they technically have access to occupational therapy, but not to someone who actually specializes in handwriting. Most OTs can say they "do" handwriting. Very few have built their entire clinical focus around it.

I wanted to build something for exactly those families — the ones who'd been told to wait, told they didn't qualify, or simply couldn't find someone with real depth in this specific area. Foundations First Co. exists to close that gap.

What Working With Me Looks Like My approach is built around research-backed interventions that address the motor, visual, and cognitive factors that shape how a child learns to write — not just letter formation in isolation. Because I am a mobile provider, I bring the clinic directly to your living room. Sessions are hands-on, entirely 1-on-1, and paired with a custom home programming toolkit and consistent parent feedback at the end of every visit, so what we build together actually carries forward into your family's everyday life.

On a Personal Note I'm also a mom to two young kids of my own, so I understand, in a very real way, what it's like trying to fit one more thing into an already full week, let alone driving across town to sit in a clinic waiting room. I've built this mobile practice with that reality in mind — bringing premium support directly to your home because that is what actually works for busy families.

I'd love to get to know your child, and to be part of this part of their story.
